Atlanta–Charlotte High-Speed Rail Study
Date: 2012–2013
Location: Georgia/North Carolina
Client: Georgia Department of Transportation (ultimate client), HNTB (prime consultant)
Role: Project Manager
While at Steer Davies Gleave, I managed the ridership and revenue forecasting portion of the Tier 1 Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) study of proposed high-speed rail service on the Atlanta–Charlotte corridor. In this role, I led the modeling effort, which involved the parallel modeling of three distinct market segments: intercity travel, intra-city travel, and connect air travel.
The project involved the development of a custom TransCAD intercity model, development of a custom connect air model, and modification of the existing Atlanta- and Charlotte-area metropolitan planning organization models to estimate intra-city trips. Forecasts were made for a number of alignment and technology alternatives.
